Attack of the Killer Toddler

What happend to Emma's shirt....

Madeline has spent the day attacking Emma. They both laugh hysterically. It is too cute. She will chase her and climb on her when she is down.

Finally, footage of Emma

I finally caught Emma walking on camera. She is doing awesome. She does much better on the carpet at Nana and Papa's.

Piano playing, a picnic and a hiding spot.

Looks like we need to sign them up for piano lessons.

Madeline loves music, and was having too much fun banging on the piano at Nana and Papa's.

In all fairness, Emma discovered it first.

Rockin' on the rocking horse Papa made for all the grandkids.

Today we went to the North Seattle Family of Multiples Picnic. It was great until the rain hit. Daddy introduced the girls to Capri Sun. They loved it!

Earlier in the week I caught Emma in the dog kennel. She loves crawling in there. If the office door is open she heads straight for it. It's like her own little hiding spot.

Madi thought it was pretty funny that Emma was inside and she was out.

Hopefully this is not a sign of what may come in the future.

Playdates and Policemen

Today we were invited over to Sarah and Ellis' house for a playdate.  We had a great time playing with Ellis, Blake and Larsen.  After the fun was over I carted the two girls off in my arms to the car.  Madi loves to play with the car keys and as always I let her. I placed Madi in the car with my right arm (keys in hand) then went around to the other side and put Emma in her car seat, strapped her in and shut the door.  Just as I was shutting the door, Madi was hitting the lock button.  So there we were, sitting in Sarah's driveway with my phone, bag, keys and BABIES all locked in the car.  I called 911 and had the police sent over.  While waiting for the Policeman, Madi started climbing all over her seat (I hadn't strapped her in yet).  And finally she managed to step on the unlock button as the keys were laying in the bottom of her car seat.  She was able to free herself and Emma from the increasingly hot car.  Just as we were all settled down the nice Policeman showed up.  I am still a bit shaken, so as a lesson... DON'T let your kids play with the keys as you put them in the car.

Water Babies and Smarty Pants

Water Babies

The girls LOVE water. They love baths, they love pools, they even love water in lobster pots. Today was in the mid 90's and after driving home from GH I wasn't prepared to take the girls to the park or the pool. So we made do. Papi has a wading pool but it is too dirty for the girls and if I bought one for the girls it would be taken over by the dog. I decided the next best thing was to fill the lobster pot with water. The girls loved it.

On Thursday I met Becky and the boys at a pool in Kirkland. Unfortunately I didn't have the camera. Madeline turned into a fish right before my eyes. I don't think I have ever seen that girl have so much fun. She was in her element. Poor Emma wasn't feeling well, she is getting all 4 top teeth so she took a nap in the stroller. I was able to take Madeline into the big pool for the very first time. She was splashing and kicking and dunking her face away. I can't wait to do it again and take Emma.

Smarty Pants

Around the time the girls turned 8 months I started working on sign language with them. Only a few signs, but ones I thought would help down the road. We have worked on milk, more, all done, eat, and no. They have definitely shown that they understand the signs sometimes. And every once in a while I am able to get them both to do "milk". But these last couple of days Madi has undoubtedly been doing "more". She even makes a sound that almost sounds like "more", she puckers her lips and makes the mmmm sound. She is so proud of herself. You can see in this video and see that Emma is more interested in playing with her spoon then showing off what she can do. Emma is very good at "all done", her extra food usually ends up on the floor.

BTW, no more progress on the walking front. The girls have decided it just isn't for them. They much rather crawl or have momma and dadda carry them.

While the parents are away the babies will...

WALK!!!
So while Chad and I were off acting like young fools again the girls were at Nana and Papa's acting like grown ups. They both decided it was time to walk. Up until this point Emma had only taken one step at a time, well Friday night while we were rockin' she was walkin'. Then Madeline decided to follow in her foot steps. Apparently Madeline doesn't like to hit these large milestones in front of her mama. As some may remember she started crawling at Nana and Papa's while I was off living it up in Vegas.
Here is a short little video of Madeline from this afternoon. I will try to get Emma after her nap.

Who says having kids makes you old...

Motley Crue 2008
Chad, Tim, Kendra and I all headed to White River Amphitheater on Friday night for Crue Fest. We met up with Chad's friend Dan from work and couple of his friends downtown and all took a limo down to White River. We had a blast acting like we were young and free. Thank you Nana and Papa for watching the girls. I can't quite do it like I used too, but had fun trying.

August 7th

Was two days ago. And was the day we brought Madeline Sophia Borden home from the hospital to join her sister, her puppy and her mother and father at 6529 32nd Ave.

So here is Madeline's coming home story... I woke up the morning of the 7th and got my self ready to go visit Madeline in the hospital. It was a Tuesday and as of Monday we were told that we could expect Madeline to come home on Wednesday. Well when I showed up at the hospital for Madeline's 10am feeding the nurse told me she was ready to go home. I was very pleasantly surprised and a little in shock. I wasn't expecting that at all! So I called Chad and had him pack up Emma and grab my camera and diaper bag. He showed up and after going through all the discharge proceedures, we were heading home as a family of 4. Well, at this point we realized we had 2 cars. Chad's car had the carseat bases in it so he took the girls and I followed. As we got closer to home it dawned on me that we had no food for lunch and that we probably wouldn't be going anywhere soon. So I made a turn into U Village for sandwiches and Chad headed home with the girls. When I walked in 20 minutes later I found Chad on the couch with both girls in his arms giving them bottles. He was amazing. I was the bad mother that missed Madeline's homecoming.

All unhooked from the monitors and waiting for the word to pack up and leave.
So tiny.

August 5th

Besides being Auntie Kiersten's birthday, August 5th is also the day that Emma Jenkins Borden came home and officially moved into 6529 32nd Ave.

On this day last year, Chad went to the Mariner's/Red Sox game with our friend Brian even though we knew Emma was coming home. Chad came to the hospital with me around 10 then took a cab down to the stadium. After sitting around for a while the nurse kept asking if he was coming. I was too embarrassed to tell her that I let him go to a baseball game. I didn't want her to think that he didn't care about his daughter coming home. He did, it's just that it was a day game and it sounded like fun. I just told the nurse that he was at a work thing, but then when he and Brian showed up at the hospital with little M's hats for the girls my little white lie came out. Although, Brian is a work friend so it wasn't a complete lie. I am sure there was a little work talk going on. Then on the way home we had no food, so her first stop was QFC. I am sure everyone was looking at us like we were nuts to bring a tiny 5lb baby into the grocery store. On the way home from the NICU of all places. In fact we were a little nuts, I can't believe we did that, what was I thinking? Oh yeah, I wasn't. I wasn't in the sharpest state of mind back then.

Emma in daddy's car all alone.

Emma asleep at just 3 weeks old.

Emma asleep at 1 year old. All stretched out.

This was taken at 10am on Sunday morning, I was so excited that my little girl was sleeping in like her mommy. This wasn't a nap, she hadn't been up for the day yet.

Summer is finally here.

Everywhere else in this country summer starts in June. Here in Seattle, apparently this year it starts in August. After a week of rain and 60's this heat is more than welcome. To beat the heat today the girls and I headed to the Eastside to meet our friends Katie and Emerson Heady.

The girls had a great time splashing in the water. A few rocks made it to the mouth, but the towel on the ground seemed to help a little bit.
Emerson checking out the sand.
